Whether you’re ready for it or not, 2013 is off to a running start. What’s been making news so far this year? Well, it’s Wednesday, so we have some interesting stories for you:

  • Warren Buffet believes that harnessing the talent of women is key for building strong economies. With that in mind, Lucy P. Marcus put together five essential steps for developing women leaders. Our favorite step? Her third, which highlights the importance of mentoring. We’ve discussed this in the past.
  • In The Huffington Post, Marilyn Nagel argues that women directors help companies gain a competitive edge. There’s been progress, and there are several thriving companies that lead by example, but progress is still advancing at a snail’s pace.
  • Saint Mary’s College graduated eight women from their SPARK entrepreneurship-training program in 2012, their third class. Of the 30 women who have graduated the program, seven have gone on to start local businesses within the community. This is where progress starts.
  • YTJ Solutions, a leading Chicago based provider of information technology consulting, just received national certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Development Center.

Have a great week!
