The Best Countries for Women Entrepreneurs

June 13, 2014

Good news for U.S. readers, you already live in the top country for women entrepreneurs! In Dell’s second annual Gender-GEDI ranking, the top five developed or developing countries that do the best job supporting their high-potential women are:

  1. United States
  2. Australia
  3. Germany
  4. France
  5. Mexico

The secret for creating a culture that supports women entrepreneurs? Dell’s study found that there are many ways that countries can support their women in business through focusing on education, business formalization and access to capital, and removing unnecessary legal or regulatory impediments to growth.

The report also found that economic development and high income alone are not enough to foster high-potential female entrepreneurs. For instance, while the United States and Japan are both high-income economies, the U.S. excels at supporting their women entrepreneurs as compare to Japan, which has the lowest percentage of female managers out of all 17 of the countries examined for the study.
