Berkshire Bank is a Boston-based community bank with more than $13 billion in assets and 130 branches across the Northeast. Berkshire focuses on three shared value priorities: building a responsible workforce, fostering sustainable communities, and financing the future.

Strategic outcomes from these priorities include 100% employee participation in diversity, bias, ethics, and professional development training; the funding of $4.2 million in community contributions, with 67% benefitting under-resourced populations; and the financing of $248 million to support small businesses and $71.5 million for renewable energy and low-carbon projects.

The employee volunteer program, XTEAM, sees 100% employee participation and the board of directors created a Corporate Responsibility & Culture Committee tasked with overseeing the company’s shared value performance.


Propeller

Propeller is a 100-person, employee-owned management consulting firm serving four locations—Portland, Oregon; San Francisco; Denver; and Silicon Valley. Fifty-six percent of its employees are women, including its CEO.

In 2018, Propeller experienced 41% revenue growth and 38% staff growth. “Commit to People” is Propeller’s core mission, and last year it completed seven pro bono projects dedicated to hosting and leading professional development workshops, board off-sites, speed mentoring sessions for small business owners, as well as leadership goal setting and business planning seminars.

In 2019, Propeller’s goal is to donate 1% of total consulting hours toward community service. Additionally, Propeller matches up to $50 of every donation employees make to a nonprofit organization. Last year, employee donations and company matching supported 34 different nonprofits.
