COVID-19 continues to create significant health and economic challenges, but hope is on the horizon as vaccinations are being administered. As we enter this next phase in the COVID-19 recovery and eradication, employers are looking for best practices to manage the vaccination rollout. From employee communications and segmentation to administration of the vaccines, getting shots into arms is multi-faceted and brings numerous challenges.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation has been working with the private sector to gather insights and best practices as companies navigate next steps. Abbott

Abbott Labs announced that it is making its BinaxNOW Covid-19 rapid antigen test available to schools, universities, pharmacies and workplaces that require frequent and affordable testing. The company is also sharing its testing blueprint with customers interested in learning the model it has used to get its workforce back to its facilities and maintain their health safety.

AbbVie

In an effort to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the City of North Chicago is opening a free temporary vaccine administration clinic at the Greenbelt Cultural Center. The clinic will initially serve an estimated 1,700 North Chicago residents age 65 and over. The temporary facility will be able to serve approximately 150 people per day beginning on February 15 and operate for two months. The clinic is sponsored by AbbVie, a research-based global biopharmaceutical company, with a long-standing commitment to North Chicago...

AirBnB

The vacation rental company offered to identify homes that could be used as vaccine distribution sites in communities with limited access to health care facilities as rollout efforts continue nationwide. Airbnb is partnering with various domestic INGOs to cover the cost of housing for relief workers who are deployed for COVID-19 support such as testing & vaccine rollout.

Albertsons

Albertsons employs 11,000 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and is gearing up to hire hundreds more to help the vaccine effort. As of Jan. 26, Albertsons had administered over 200,000 doses.

ALDI

Aldi will offer employees two hours of pay for each dose of the two-part Covid-19 vaccine (four hours of total pay). Aldi will cover costs associated with vaccine administration and implement on-site vaccination clinics at its warehouse and office locations.

Amazon

Amazon is helping vaccinate thousands of people through pop-up clinics in Washington State and Florida. Amazon is lending support to President Joe Biden’s administration in its effort to vaccinate 100 million people in the first 100 days of his presidency. Amazon is advocating for COVID-19 vaccinations for their front-line employees, including team members working in fulfillment and data centers, and at Whole Foods Market stores. Amazon quickly ramped-up onsite COVID-19 testing for employees thanks to the ingenuity of their fast-moving response team...

American Airlines

American Airlines plans to offer COVID-19 vaccines to its employees at medical clinics at its hub airports once they are available, with inoculation for Chicago-based employees possible as soon as next month. American Airlines is not requiring the vaccine for employees but is working on a plan with local health authorities and its medical partner Premise, which has filed the necessary paperwork to get access to the vaccine as soon as possible.

AmerisourceBergen Corporation

AmerisourceBergen is working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to serve as a network administrator which allows the company to place COVID-19 vaccine orders with the CDC on behalf of an initial set of eligible and qualified Good Neighbor Pharmacy and Elevate Provider Network members across select states and jurisdictions as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. Anheuser-Busch

Budweiser will not be running a commercial during the Super Bowl for the first time in 37 years. Instead, the Anheuser-Busch InBev beer will use the marketing dollars to support Covid-19 vaccine awareness and access. The beer brand also plans to donate a percentage of its advertising airtime for 2021 to the Ad Council and Covid Collaborative’s Vaccine Education Initiative. Budweiser will support its efforts with additional campaigns throughout the year.

Arizona Sports & Tourism Authority

Arizona is planning to use State Farm Stadium as a massive COVID-19 vaccination center following a rollout of vaccinations statewide. The 63,400 seat stadium will open on Monday, January 11 with plans to remain open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with the capacity to vaccinate 6,000 Arizonans a day. State Farm Stadium is owned by the Arizona Sports & Tourism Authority (AZSTA) and operated by ASM Global.

AT&T

AT&T is strongly encouraging vaccination and providing up to four hours’ paid time off per dose to allow employees to receive the vaccine. The cost of the vaccine will be covered by AT&T’s medical plans. The company has also established a notification system that will alert them when vaccinations become available on a priority basis in their area. Additionally, the company has established an internal resource center to educate employees, including hosting video conversations between the CEO and medical professionals on the development, distribution and efficacy of the vaccine...

Atlas Senior Living

A senior living company based in Birmingham is hoping to help stop the spread of the coronavirus by announcing its COVID-19 vaccination incentive program for all of its employees, a bonus that is measured at about $1.1 million dollars. The program will be offered to every full-time and part-time employee in each community that is owned or managed by Atlas with locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee in addition to its corporate office in Birmingham...

Bayer

Bayer has signed a collaboration and services agreement with CureVac N.V., a biopharmaceutical company developing a new class of transformative medicines based on messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA). Under the terms of the agreement, Bayer will support the further development, supply and key territory operations of CureVac´s COVID-19 vaccine candidate CVnCoV. BD

BD announced that it has received pandemic orders for needles and syringes totaling more than 1 billion injection devices to support global COVID-19 vaccination planning efforts. In addition to supporting immediate efforts for COVID-19 vaccination readiness, BD is also working on multiple fronts to help ensure the global community is prepared for future pandemic vaccination efforts by: - Partnering with the U.S. government on a $70 million capital project to further expand BD's operations and manufacturing capacity in Nebraska...

Booz Allen Hamilton

Booz Allen is providing some pro bono consulting support related to workforce planning for vaccine distribution. The company has also provided charitable support for a vaccine supercenter in San Diego.

BRIA Health Services

BRIA Health Services, a long-term residential care and rehab provider, is offering a bonus of $150 for staff who get the vaccine. BRIA’s long-term care facilities have been hard hit by COVID-related deaths and questions over how the company handled outbreaks. “This is the most critical weapon in our fight against COVID-19,” BRIA spokesperson Natalie Bauer Luce said.  Luce said they also have a task force of infectious disease experts answering questions from employees who may be hesitant to get vaccinated...

Capitol Carbonic

One local dry ice company is soon going to be helping pharmacies store the vaccine as it starts to become more widely available. At Capitol Carbonic in southwest Baltimore, their specialty is making storage extra frosty, and that’s exactly what pharmacies need as they start to receive the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine. “The temperature for this vaccine is critical, and I’m hearing anywhere between -70 and -94, and dry ice is 109 below zero,” John Dillinger, General Manager of Capitol Carbonic, said...

Carbon Health

Carbon Health, the technology-enabled healthcare provider, announced the launch of Carbon Health Vaccinate, a platform that allows local governments to more efficiently manage vaccine operations, and for any person to easily check their eligibility for a COVID-19 vaccine and sign up for a vaccination appointment.  The company also announced its first partnership with the City of Los Angeles and CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) to support the city’s COVID-19 vaccination program...

Chobani

Chobani is making it easier for workers to get vaccinated. The dairy company announced that employees would be compensated for up to six hours to receive vaccine doses. "Some people view this as an expense. We look at it as an investment," Chobani's President and COO Peter McGuinness told Cheddar. "We're making food to put on American tables, and I think the least we can do is make it very easy for them to get vaccinated." McGuinness said the company especially wants to make sure it's more than 2,000 hourly workers can receive the vaccines.

Cigna

Microsoft Corp, health insurer Cigna Corp, and Mayo Clinic are part of a coalition pushing for digital records of people who get vaccinated against COVID-19. A key aim of the project, called Vaccination Credential Initiative, is to help people store encrypted digital copies of their immunization records in a digital wallet of their choice. These records could eventually be used, with an individual’s consent, by colleges that are trying to re-open or even for entry into concerts in the future.
