Mat Despard is the Executive Director of the Center for Community Capital and was previously an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. His research focuses on the financial security of low- and moderate-income households, including tax-time savings, employer-based financial wellness programs, financial services for lower-income households, and summer youth employment. This is Mat's 2nd time with UNC. He was a Clinical Associate Professor at the UNC School of Social Work and an adjunct professor at the Kenan-Flagler Business School where he taught graduate courses in nonprofit management, community practice, and social policy. Before joining UNC, Mat worked for several years in nonprofit organizations and applied research settings.
