Representative George Young

Oklahoma State Representative, District 99

Reverend Dr. George E. Young, Sr., M.A (with Honors)., M. Div.(with Honors), MBA, D. Min., formerly, Senior Pastor at Holy Temple Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and Board Chair and CEO of Faith To Government, Inc., he is also a former Commissioner for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.   A   Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) with the Association of Professional Chaplains, a Certified Case Manager. He currently is an adjunct professor at Mid-America Christian University and works with the Ok. County Drug and DUI Court.   In addition he has completed the Master Trainer Program through Stanford University Patient Education Research Center in Chronic Disease Self-Management.  Dr. Young completed a Merrill Fellowship with Harvard Divinity School, in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1996.  He was awarded and completed the “Sabbatical Grant for Pastoral Leaders” from the Louisville Institute of Louisville Seminary (Lily Foundation).  He is an alumnus of the Lott Carey Pastors of Excellence Program where he completed a three year Missionary program in three foreign countries. He is a Board Member for The Red Cross of Central Oklahoma (former Chair of Volunteers and Board Member of the Year) United Way for Greater OKC (Ethics Officer), Oklahoma Health Foundation, University of Central Oklahoma’s President’s Advisory Council, Leadership Oklahoma City (Treasurer) and Youth Services of Oklahoma County.   Dr. Young is a former trustee for Phillips Theological Seminary, where he also serves as an Adjunct Professor.  He has also received community service awards from:  Urban League of Greater OKC, Oklahoma Health Foundation, Midwest City Martin Luther King Breakfast, Oklahoma Conference of Churches and the Interfaith Alliance in addition to being recognized as “Distinguished Alumnus” by Phillips Theological Seminary.   He is an alumnus of Leadership Oklahoma Class XVIII where he was selected by his class to receive the “Golden Bull Award (Awarded to a class member by the class members who most exemplifies the mission of the class).  He led Holy Temple in the   construction of an independent living Senior Housing Project (Temple Gardens).  He is married to the Reverend Dr. Thelma Chambers-Young, has two children and three wonderful grandsons.
