America Would be Well-Served by Dr. Jerome Adams as the Next U.S. Surgeon General

July 31, 2017

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation knows first-hand of Dr. Jerome Adams’ experience advocating for public health and working with partners across sectors, which will make him an outstanding U.S. Surgeon General to lead our nation on matters of public health, and response to public health crises.

The U.S. Chamber Foundation has worked with Dr. Adams during his tenure as Indiana Health Commissioner on several occasions to promote the role of the private sector in community wellness. He most recently spoke at our Health Means Business National Summit in February, in which he inspired the audience to realize the importance of cross sector partnerships between business and public health as a key step towards community wellness.

At the Summit, he also stressed that Americans often don’t realize the significance of leading a healthy lifestyle, until they see the data linking improved health with increased wages and jobs.

As Indiana State Health Commissioner, Dr. Adams oversees the Public Health Protection and Laboratory Services, Health and Human Services, and Health Care Quality and Regulatory Commission. He is an expert across a diverse portfolio of health issues, and has been on the front lines of public health and medicine in the state of Indiana, which will make him all the more effective as our next Surgeon General.

At the U.S. Chamber Foundation, we work with the private sector and communities to tackle some of the most pressing issues our society faces. Dr. Adams has proven to be an advocate for strengthening the engagement of the business community in improving health outcomes for American citizens, and we look forward to continuing to work with him should the Senate confirm him as America’s next Surgeon General.
