MGM Resorts International Hosts Women’s Leadership Conference

July 31, 2014

On August 6 and 7 I will be in Las Vegas attending the Women’s Leadership Conference hosted by the MGM Resorts Foundation and the Women’s Food Service Forum. I will be speaking about women as the “The Next Emerging Economy.” Many experts have noted the enormous potential impact of increased female participation in the global workforce and as economically empowered consumers – coining this group of women as “the third billion” or the “next emerging economy.” There is a strong business and social case for the private sector playing an active role in supporting this group of women. Professional female leaders, like those attending the conference, can serve as a major catalyst in advancing “the next emerging economy” in several ways. They can encourage their companies to seek out and empower women employees, women in the supply chain, and women in the community. I look forward to sharing my ideas and engaging with conference participants on the topic.

I am delighted that broadcast journalist and Starfish Foundation Co-Founder Soledad O’Brien will also speak at the conference. She is an incredible supporter and friend to the Corporate Citizenship Center.  At our U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation International Women’s Day Forum, her keynote dialogue, interviewing the Malala Fund’s Shiza Shahid and UN Women’s Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, was incredibly inspiring and reminded us that all women must have a voice, and men must advocate and support that goal. I am thrilled to see her speak once again as a major champion of women’s empowerment.

The Women’s Leadership Conference will generate thoughtful conversation on female empowerment and our role in advancing it. I am proud to be a part of it and look forward to my trip next week!
