What’s This All About?
Workplace kindness is a cultural ethos that encourages everyone in an organization to foster inclusivity, empowerment, and respect.
We are facing divisive times—from social media to politics. It has seeped into our living rooms, social media feeds, and cubicles. Productive discussion has come to be the exception rather than the rule.
Kindness is a powerful tool in shifting this paradigm. How can we affect positive change within the workplace? And can that change trickle into our communities?
To address this, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation is collaborating with the Born This Way Foundation (BTWF), which was co-founded in 2012 by Lady Gaga. This partnership stems from the shared belief that people – and the organizations we form – can be a powerful force for good.
We’re coming together with a simple call to action: invest in kindness. Let’s build stronger workplaces that foster and cultivate compassion, where teams are more productive, and employees feel valued and respected.
The Impacts of Kindness
We believe that kindness and its message can be agents of change in both communities and companies. We also believe that championing a culture of kindness and civility is a powerful way to motivate employees, build customer loyalty, and ultimately drive results.
It is through this belief, and rooted research on the benefits of kindness and inclusion, that the U.S. Chamber Foundation and the Born This Way Foundation have launched The Business of Kindness campaign. In this campaign, we will work with corporate partners to promote kindness as an important business principle and share the business case for kindness.
As part of the campaign, we aim to achieve three goals:
- Highlight evidence that kindness is an important business practice for companies to adopt
- Showcase best practices from companies with successful kindness initiatives; and
- Provide ways for companies to incorporate kindness more effectively in their business operations
