Target customers often tell them they are looking for sustainable ways to dispose of their old, outgrown car seats. Unfortunately, there are obstacles preventing car seats from being easily recycled, including safety concerns and lack of eligibility for most curbside recycling programs. In 2016, Target invited their customers to bring used seats to their local Target store and get a great deal on a new one. Since then, Target has collected more than 170,000 car seats and their vendor partner, TerraCycle, recycled them into new products, diverting 2.6 million pounds of materials from landfills.
