Achieving Value for Patients and Employers:
Creating a Health Care System for the 21st Century

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation hosted a CEO Leadership Series featuring Ralph de la Torre, MD, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Steward Health Care System, one of the nation’s leading integrated health care systems and Medicare providers.

Dr. de la Torre discussed how Steward - a major private employer in New England - was created to address rising health care costs in the face of a national health care reform law and regulatory uncertainty. Dr. de la Torre’s success suggests that there are ways to sustainably provide better health care and lower costs for employees and employers, without hindering access to great medical care.
