The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s “Hiring Our Heroes” Hiring Fair, scheduled for August 8, 2014 at the Peoria Civic Center located in Peoria, IL is committed to making this one-of-a-kind FREE hiring fair a win-win for employers and veteran/military spouse job seekers.
A workshop for veterans and other military job seekers that focuses on resume writing, tips for successfully navigating hiring fairs, military skill translation, and interviewing will start at 8:00 a.m.

Hiring Our Heroes Employment Workshop
The Hiring Our Heroes employment workshop consists of a classroom session beginning an hour and a half prior to the hiring fair. This will be followed one-on-one mentoring sessions with all pre-registered and walk-in participants to be conducted throughout the day. Mentoring sessions focus on resume building, resume writing, and interviewing techniques for all job-seeking veterans and service member participants.
Interested candidates must complete the FREE electronic pre-registration in order to participate. A maximum of 50 participants will be accepted for the full workshop. Once the pre-registered candidates have their coaching sessions, the opportunity may be available for “walk ins” to have a coaching session through the end of the Fair (depending on availability).

Wardrobes in the Workplace (For Ladies Only): Monday, August 4, 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Dress for Success of Peoria will discuss how to appropriately dress for job fairs, interviews, and employment. They will also help attendees create a wardrobe for interviews and job fairs.
Mediocre to Magnificent for Men: Monday, August 4, 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Tips for men regarding what to wear to a job fair, interview, and employment presented by local businessmen.
Making the Most of Job Fairs: Tuesday, August 5, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Learn how to navigate job fairs, create a plan of action to make the most of your time, and how to approach employers.
Preparing Your Resume: Tuesday, August 5, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Learn general resume writing rules including how to list your work history, education, achievements, and skills. Bring your current resume or employment history, education information, and references. Staff will be on hand to assist you.
Interview Workshop Presented by Caterpillar: Wednesday, August 6, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
One of the largest area employers will be providing you with tips on preparing for an interview. Areas covered will include how to dress, answering questions, explaining you work history, and how to follow up after the interview.
Mock Interview Sessions: Wednesday, August 6, 1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Area business professionas wil guid you through a mock interview asking common interview questions and providing feedback to ensure you're prepared for the real deal!
Do Your Homework!: Thursday, August 7, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Internet access will be available to research companies that will present at the August 8 job fair. Be prepared with knowledge of the companies that interest you. Impress them during your interview!
Open Lab: Monday, August 4-7, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Goodwill's Computer Lab will be available to job search on the internet, create, or revise resumes, or research potentail employers.
