Safety

Safety is a broad topic which covers many aspects of public life. Companies engage in specific programs to help improve the safety of individuals and overall safety of a community. These programs are frequently awareness-focused and remind consumers of the dangers of particular activities, but they are not limited to awareness campaigns. Some examples include:

  • Campaigns against texting while driving/distracted driving
  • Campaigns against binge drinking and drunk driving
  • Campaigns against domestic violence
  • Campaigns against misuse of medication
  • Campaigns promoting condom use and HIV/STI testing
  • Partnerships with law enforcement to encourage safety practices at home and in the community

Why does business engage this issue?

Safe communities are strong communities. Many businesses recognize that there are specific safety issues which threaten a community’s well-being, such as drunk driving or domestic violence. Businesses have the resources to combat these issues, as well as the media platforms which can be readily converted to public service announcements. Businesses are often in a good position to present public service information to their consumers and can use this ability to play a vital role in public safety.
