Conservation

Often operations related to particular businesses or industries necessitate working in ecologically-sensitive environments, or employing invasive tactics. When it comes to conservation, businesses typically partner with local NGOs who have a long track record of strong environmental stewardship and ecosystem protection around a particular site. Businesses can rely on these NGOs’ expertise to help ensure that their individual plants or worksites do not have more of an impact on the environment than necessary.

Why does business engage this issue?

Preserving resources is a long-term strategy. While the resources of the planet once seemed inexhaustible, it is clear that certain resources are in danger of running out. For instance, unless cocoa plants are carefully preserved, yields could be greatly diminished in just 20 years. The same goes for the eco-systems on which the cocoa plants rely.  Many industries rely on easily accessible raw materials that must be husbanded if they are to remain abundant in the future.
