Nonprofit Capacity Building

Nonprofit Capacity Building Issue Network

BCLC works to provides businesses with resources and information they need to build the capacity of non-profits and to better prepare both sides to work together in outcome-oriented partnerships. We convene companies and NGOs to focus on improving the ability of NGOs to scope, fundraise, manage, and scale their mission programs. We also collect proven practices and lessons learned from veterans of these partnerships and identify ways that NGOs can better prepare themselves for engaging the resources of willing businesses. Our work specifically focuses on creating “shared value” partnerships that improve institutional capacity and direct performance of mission programs. This network seeks to:

  • Improve the institutional ability of NGOs to scope, fundraise, manage, and scale their programs
  • Increase the probability of success for NGO/business partnerships
  • Ensure NGOs know how to communicate their needs/mission in ways that businesses can understand and engage
  • Improve the ability of NGOs to deploy skills-based volunteers

Business Corps Year One Impact Report

In October 2011, the U.S. Chamber Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) launched Business Corps, a first-of-its-kind collaborative corporate volunteerism initiative with nine leading companies.

The pilot program took place in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, with a focus on delivering pro bono expertise in local community organizations. Now, a year later, Business Corps is a proven example of the power of a multi-company network with a common objective: to redefine how businesses work together and leverage their respective strengths to collectively address society's needs.
