John Gardner is Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer for Novelis Inc. In this role, he is responsible for leading the company’s initiatives to integrate sustainable solutions into the company’s processes and products – positively impacting our stakeholders including our customers and the communities in which the company operates.
John was previously Vice President, Human Resources and Communications for Novelis Europe. Beginning his career with Alcan in 1986, he has held a succession of positions in marketing, strategic analysis and planning, operations management and corporate affairs in the UK, Belgium and Switzerland. Additionally, John was responsible for establishing aluminum can recycling programs in Europe. In 2000, he served as integration director for the Alcan Alusuisse merger process.
John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities from the University of Wolverhampton and a Master of Science in Management Science and Operational Research from the Warwick Business School at the University of Warwick. He has previously served as chair of the European Aluminium Association Packaging group and the Organization of European Aluminium Refiners and Remelters (OEA)
