Combating the Opioid Crisis
On March 1, 2018, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce hosted “Combating the Opioid Crisis: From Communities to the Capital” and convened representatives from businesses, the public sector, and local communities to explore efforts to combat the opioid epidemic in the United States—a crisis that the President declared a Public Health Emergency.
U.S. Chamber Foundation's President Carolyn Cawley participated in the Chamber’s “The Opioid Epidemic: From the Front Lines to the Boardroom" an event co-hosted by the National Safety Council. The forum highlighted how substance abuse is impacting the business community and focused on solutions to improve access for treatment in the workplace.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and Discovery Education have partnered to create Operation Prevention, a comprehensive program to combat opioid misuse. Operation Prevention's mission is to educate students about the true impacts of opioids and kick-start lifesaving conversations in the home and classroom. Our Corporate Citizenship Center has taken the Operation Prevention Pledge to battle the global war on opioid misuse.
Drug Prevention in Schools
The Chamber Foundation has joined the Prescription Drug Safety Network (PDSN) developed by education technology leader EVERFI to bring together partners committed to getting ahead of the problem through population-level prevention and education program targeting high school students. As a partner in this Network, the Chamber Foundation is helping to provide high schools in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia with EVERFI’s digital prevention platform.
