Unprecedented Summits in Germany Connect More than a Thousand Transitioning Service Members with Employers Looking to Hire
GRAFENWOEHR, GERMANY — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes program, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S Department of Defense, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army’s Soldier for Life and Installation Management Command, and the American Chamber of Commerce – Germany, connected more than 1,200 transitioning service members with employers at the first European Theater Transition Summits at U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria today and Ramstein Air Force Base on Monday. It marks the largest hiring events ever held on U.S. military installations overseas. Hiring Our Heroes, together with Hilton Worldwide and HireVue, toured across Germany to help transitioning U.S. service members find meaningful employment.
“Through the tremendous support of Hilton Worldwide and HireVue, we are now able to connect transitioning service members overseas to employment opportunities at home in a way that has never been done before,” said Eric Eversole, vice president at the U.S. Chamber and executive director of Hiring Our Heroes. “There is a growing number of men and women leaving the military from overseas and these summits will go a long way toward ensuring they have a job when they get home. This is a testament to the business community for making the time and effort to travel to Germany in search of the best talent the world has to offer.”

We are proud to support today’s event, which connects transitioning service members overseas to potential employers, and ensures that they receive the critical guidance necessary to attain civilian employment.”

The European Theater Transition Summits featured seminars, roundtables, panel events, recruiter training, networking opportunities, and facilitated discussions focused on supporting service members, veterans, and military spouses as they better position themselves to compete for employment opportunities. Each event culminated with a Hiring Our Heroes job fair. In addition to connecting service members with employers at the fairs, HireVue’s innovative video interviewing platform connected more than 400 additional employers in the U.S. with these service members for potential employment opportunities. The summits are sponsored by Call of Duty Endowment, Hilton Worldwide, HireVue, and Verizon.

Hiring Our Heroes is a nationwide initiative to help veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s vast network of state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private and nonprofit sectors, Hiring Our Heroes has helped hundreds of thousands of veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. And as a direct result of more than 810 job fairs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and Germany, 25,000 men and women have been hired by more than 1,500 businesses.
