Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business Operations Management Professor Atalay Atasu’s interest in how companies manage balancing environmental and manufacturing concerns began during his PhD studies at INSEAD. Since then he worked on a number of projects that explored the interface of manufacturing operations and environmental issues. In those projects he studied the economics of closed-loop supply chains (e.g., refurbishing operations), extended producer responsibility (e.g., regulated recycling) and more recently, the circular economy, from an implementation point of view. More specifically his research is about identifying the ideal operational and implementation related conditions that can create win-win outcomes for the manufacturing industry from economic and environmental perspectives.
