What Happens When You Combine Women and Nature? Empowerment!

September 19, 2012

Natalie MasriThe Center for Women in Business (CWB) and the Women’s Empowerment Workshop (WEW) have the same ultimate objective: to help women feel empowered. Each organization has a unique way of meeting that same objective. CWB empowers women to meet their personal and professional goals by mentoring them, increasing opportunities for them to serve in leadership roles, and building a network for peer-to-peer networking and education. WEW empowers women to meet their goals by discovering the power of nature and the power of themselves.

I had the opportunity to spend the past few days in the stunning venue of Vail, Colorado, experiencing the WEW version of empowerment and I have to say it was an enlightening experience. Thirty women from diverse backgrounds gathered to share their stories and immediately they connected and mentored one another in much the same way we do through our CWB programs. Over the course of the weekend these women began to overcome obstacles in their lives by connecting with nature, themselves, and one another.

Ultimately, the experience affirmed to me the power of mentoring and networking. Women are connected and they need to feel connected in order to thrive. It doesn’t matter if we’re floating down the Colorado River together in a raft, or seated in a meeting room in Washington, DC. We have so much to learn from one another!
