Hurricane Laura and California Wildfires Coordination Call

Friday, August 28, 2020 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Hurricane Laura marked the 12th named storm this year—setting the record for the most named storms in the Atlantic basin before September. The devastating storm wreaked havoc in the Gulf of Mexico, threatening communities along the Louisiana and Texas shores. Meanwhile, California is dealing with more than 580 wildfires across the state, burning over 1.25 million acres.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation hosted a coordination call on Friday, August 28, to hear from partners who have been directly impacted and are actively responding to both disasters. On the call, we assessed the damages from these recent events and discussed how sheltering needs are being managed under COVID-19 restrictions. Participants also shared the current needs on the ground and how companies can help support the relief efforts.
