At a time when we need to address STEM labor shortages, we cannot afford to leave segments of our population behind. The National Science Foundation (NSF) supports a strategy to address these issues through the newly funded Community College Presidents’ Initiative in STEM Education. Community colleges, serving the most diverse student body in higher education, are fertile ground for effective diversification of the STEM workforce. 51% of community college students taking college credit classes are students of color.

As the demand for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) jobs continues to grow, companies need to focus on sustainably building equity into such opportunities. Discovery Education strategically partners with like-minded organizations, such as the Caterpillar Foundation, to deliver engaging learning experiences every single day to classrooms in the U.S. and across the world to foster more pathways for STEM careers.

Talent Forward

On this episode of Talent Forward, we will focus on creating equitable pathways into the workforce. The pandemic has been particularly disruptive for women and people of color. We will discuss real solutions for students and workers, particularly for these groups, to support their entry, or re-entry, to career opportunities.

Light a Spark: Empowering Women and Girls in STEM

In coordination with the UN’s 2020 International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11, the U.S. Chamber Foundation with its partners will launch a campaign profiling five women who have found success applying their STEM education in what might be considered unconventional STEM careers. Through captivating video, photography, and storytelling, we will join the voices empowering and inspiring girls to pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics by offering them a new lens through which to see their STEM future.
