AMPLIFY Program Returns to Support Job-Seeking Military Spouses

Hiring Our Heroes is bringing back an interactive program designed to prepare military spouses for their next career opportunities.

The AMPLIFY series of events will be held at three locations in 2017, beginning March 1-2 at Starbucks headquarters in Seattle.

The two-day events offer intense work on resumé building, personal branding, and interviewing strategies, and offer tips for aspiring entrepreneurs. Attendees will also have the option of receiving one-on-one advice from professionals in the industry of their choosing.

Subsequent AMPLIFY events will take place in Virginia Beach, Virginia on May 4-5 and Austin, Texas on October 12-13.

AMPLIFY is part of Hiring Our Heroes In Gear Career program, and made its debut last October with 21 military spouses. This year’s cohort will include 45 spouses.

“Our first AMPLIFY event was a great success and we’re proud to be offering 3 AMPLIFY programs in 2017," said Amanda Crowe, program manager for In Gear Career with Hiring Our Heroes. "The program is a perfect fit with Hiring Our Heroes’ ongoing efforts to help military spouses overcome hurdles and find meaningful employment.”

AMPLIFY events will break attendees into three tracks based on their experience in the workforce and their interest in starting their own businesses. The tracks include:

Track 1: Entry/Re-Entry level: this track is intended for military spouses who have less than 5 years professional experience OR those who have been away from the paid work force for more than 5 years.

Track 2: Mid- to Advanced-Level: This is for military spouse professionals with more than 5 years of experience and no significant time away from the paid work force. These professionals may be looking to make an industry switch or simply working toward their next career opportunity.

Track 3: Entrepreneurs/Freelancers: This track is for military spouses who own their own business or are striving toward opening their own business or for professionals who work strictly through a freelance/contracting model.

AMPLIFY 2017 will still include interactive sessions on perfecting your elevator pitch and identifying your next steps; resumés in the 21st century; polishing your LinkedIn profile; and Mastermind Matchups (the most popular session from 2016.).

In the matchup sessions, each attendee is given one hour either in person or via digital means to connect with an advanced professional in the industry of their choosing.

All of the sessions listed above will be customized based on the track each attendee has chosen and additional sessions will be crafted as the cohort takes shape and we know the interest and industries of the attendees.
