WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) initiative welcomes Schlumberger Limited as the newest supporter of its efforts to connect America’s veteran and military spouse talent with economic opportunities. Schlumberger’s support will enhance its existing veteran recruitment efforts and create a direct connection between the military talent pipeline and its Registered Apprenticeship program—the only approved U.S. Department of Labor apprentice program in the oil and gas industry.

“Veterans are the smart workforce solution to meet the needs of today’s labor market across industries,” said Eric Eversole, president of Hiring Our Heroes and vice president at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “We look forward to working with Schlumberger in their efforts to showcase the tremendous opportunities available for our transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses in oil and gas.”

Launched in 2011, Hiring Our Heroes brings together over 40 of America’s largest employers, public-private agencies and military and veteran service organizations committed to hiring veterans and military spouses, establishing best practices for veteran employment, reporting measures around efforts to hire and retain veterans, providing mentorship opportunities to transitioning service members and spouses, and encouraging small and medium-sized businesses to join in their efforts.

“Schlumberger is proud to partner with Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) to help empower veterans through successful recovery and transition after their military service,” said Stephanie Cox, President, North America Land Drilling, Schlumberger. “As the world’s largest oil and gas service company, we find that veterans have many transferrable skills that make them well suited to our operating environment. For example, they are used to working in challenging conditions, to being adaptable, and to getting the job done in any circumstance. And they understand how to work as a team to get the best results. In Schlumberger, that really makes the difference.

Hiring Our Heroes is a nationwide initiative to help veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s vast network of state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private and nonprofit sectors, Hiring Our Heroes has helped hundreds of thousands of veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment through more than 1,200 job fairs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and on military installations overseas; a suite of free online career-based resources; and the Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation is dedicated to strengthening America’s long-term competitiveness. We educate the public on the conditions necessary for business and communities to thrive, how business positively impacts communities, and emerging issues and creative solutions that will shape the future.
