U.S. Chamber Announces 2009 Corporate Citizenship Awards Finalists

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber's Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) today announced its 2009 Corporate Citizenship Awards finalists. The awards recognize companies, chambers of commerce, and business associations for making positive contributions to their communities, advancing important economic and social goals, and demonstrating ethical leadership and sound stewardship.

"This past year has challenged the business sector in unprecedented ways," said U.S. Chamber BCLC Vice President and Executive Director Stephen Jordan. "In light of these conditions, every finalist for the 2009 Corporate Citizenship Awards has performed well above and beyond the call of duty. They are truly exemplary corporate citizens."

This year's categories and finalists are:

The Corporate Stewardship Award, honoring overall values, strategies, and operational practices in companies – Best Buy Co., Inc.; ITT Corporation; Oracle Corporation; The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc.; and Wegman's Food Markets, Inc.

U.S. Community Service Award, honoring a specific community service program within the United States – ARAMARK, Health Care Service Corporation, Office Depot Foundation, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas, and UPS

International Community Service Award, honoring a specific community service program outside of the United States – Abbott Laboratories, General Electric, Goldman Sachs, Intel Corporation, and Procter and Gamble

The Partnership Award, honoring a company and charitable organization for success on an important social issue – Chevron Corporation with the Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership; CVS/Caremark Corporation All Kids Can with Boundless Playgrounds, Inc.; The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation Partnership; Ford Motor Company with the National Latino Children's Institute; and Nationwide Insurance with American Red Cross

The winner of the Corporate Stewardship Award is decided by a panel of distinguished leaders in the field of corporate citizenship, the winners of the community service awards are decided by a panel of past winners, and the Partnership Award winner will be determined by online public voting.

Each category winner will be announced at the tenth annual Awards Dinner on December 1st at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC. Full details about the finalists and their corporate citizenship are available online at www.uschamber.com/bclc/awards.
