In the wake of COVID-19 school closures, Discovery Education has partnered with the National Afterschool Association (501c3)to launch the Distance Learning Response Initiative (DLRI). Addressing the needs voiced by educators nationwide, this initiative ensures equity of access to research-based training, strategies and support as schools work to ensure students’ academic growth amidst the challenges of nontraditional learning environments. The Distance Learning Response Initiative provides an opportunity for companies and the philanthropic community to join the effort to support the continuity of learning for students and provide instructional support for educators, no matter the setting. Discovery Education is offering schools and school systems not currently using the company’s digital services free access to Discovery Education Experience. Schools accepting this offer will have access to Discovery Education’s K-12 learning platform and its ready-to-use digital lesson plans, activities, and standards-aligned resources through the remainder of the school year. In addition, Discovery Education is offering a suite of no cost resources for parents and caregivers called Daily DE that can be used at home. The brand-new Viruses and Outbreaks Channel within Discovery Education Experience helps educators discuss the Coronavirus outbreak with their students. Including timely updates regarding the Coronavirus, content describing what a virus is, information on how infectious diseases spread as well as essential guidelines for staying healthy, this channel directly links classrooms to the news shaping our world today.
