Since 2000, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Citizens Awards have recognized the most innovative and impactful corporate citizenship programs raising the bar on social responsibility and accelerating momentum for a more equitable and sustainable future.
We are proud to announce the 2021 finalists, showcasing how business continues to play a leading role in solving the world’s most pressing challenges. These 26 companies have exhibited extraordinary leadership in driving change and impact at a time when society faces unique challenges, from an uneven pandemic recovery and worker shortages to racial inequities and climate change.

Aflac Inc. – From contributing $155M+ to support pediatric cancer to implementing sustainable practices and prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, Aflac is driving positive change in communities and remains committed to the mantra that doing good is good business.
Citi – As communities continue to tackle challenges posed by COVID-19, Citi is working to ensure a more sustainable and equitable future through investments in the environment, education, affordable housing, health care, economic inclusion, racial equity, and gender equality.
DSM – DSM is dedicated to improving operations, such as reaching 100% renewable electricity at DSM North American sites by end of 2021; supplying its 23,000 employees worldwide with immunity boosting vitamins during the COVID-19 pandemic and creating a fully inclusive workplace; enabling success of customers with innovative solutions; and advocating for social and environmental justice policies to help bring about systemic change.
Rocket Companies – Since 2010, Rocket Companies and its associated sister companies have contributed more than $200 million to philanthropic efforts and Rocket Companies team members have spent more than 816,000 hours volunteering nationwide.
Adore Me, Inc. – Womenswear brand Adore Me is working to demonstrate how affordable apparel can be made sustainably on a large scale, through priorities such as engineering operational efficiency, investing in sustainable materials, and engaging in an open-sourced framework of tools that support other brands to measure impact and expand production of affordable sustainable fashion.
Blackbaud – As a 40-year-old company founded on a shared-value concept of helping nonprofits leverage technology, Blackbaud's technology has enabled nonprofits to raise, grant, and invest more than $100B each year. Ninety-two percent of Blackbaud’s employees volunteer, serving a combined 100,000 hours per year.
Primo Partners – As the Ben & Jerry’s ambassadors for nine franchises in the U.S., Primo Partners works to expand opportunity for marginalized communities across the Southeastern U.S. and improve racial and socioeconomic equity in local communities.
Chicago Fire Football Club – Established through its Foundation, Chicago Fire FC's P.L.A.Y.S. (Participate, Learn, Achieve, Youth, Soccer) Program, enhances academic performance and development of social and emotional learning skills of students through a sports-based curriculum.
Mastercard – As the world’s largest STEM program for girls, Mastercard’s Girls4Tech™ curriculum has leveraged the company’s employee expertise in payment technologies and cybersecurity to inspire 1.6 million girls around the world to become the tech leaders of tomorrow.
Raytheon Technologies – To accelerate gender, racial, and ethnic diversity among future technologists, Raytheon Technologies works with NAF to ensure access and connections to education, mentors, industry leaders, and work experience programs that transform passions into careers.
DTE Energy – Through its Summer Youth Internship Program, DTE Energy provides meaningful employment experience for youth in Michigan, offering mentoring, training, and wrap-around services to help ensure the success of each intern.
Liberty Mutual Insurance – To address the challenges youth experiencing homelessness face, Liberty Mutual has invested its financial strength and employee expertise to help 674 young people exit to stable housing and 152 young people find transitional housing between 2018 and 2020.
VF Corporation – VF’s goal is to improve the lives of 2 million workers by 2030. To do this, VF is going beyond its factory walls to provide access to healthcare, clean water, education, and childcare for workers in its global supply chain through its Worker and Community Development (WCD) Program.
General Motors – Amid the swift spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, GM partnered with Ventec Life Systems to build more than 30,000 critical care ventilators at its manufacturing facility and more than 5,000 employees volunteered to make and distribute more than 7 million masks across the country.
The PepsiCo Foundation – The PepsiCo Foundation's global hunger-fighting initiative worked with employees, NGOs, and local governments to support more than 1,000 communities, deliver more than 145 million meals, and provide more than $71 million in funding and donations to global partners.
Walgreens – Through the Walgreens Vaccine Equity Initiative, the company worked to address and overcome access barriers to the COVID-19 vaccine, especially in underserved communities where vaccine rates lagged, through vaccination events and education campaigns.
Entergy Corp. – As part of Entergy’s poverty-relief efforts, the company has helped more than 250,000 bills get paid with $65.4 million in assistance from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
ID4A Technologies – ID4A focuses on up-skilling industrial workers to manage workflows, accomplish tasks more efficiently, and thrive in a machine-augmented future while being provided with decent jobs, secure and safe work environments, and equitable employment opportunities for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
TD Ameritrade – In partnership with 4-H, TD Ameritrade's Smart Cents program provides equitable access to financial empowerment resources, mentors, and hands-on learning for underserved young people across the country.
Bayer U.S. LLC – In partnership with Kits4Life, Bayer was the first pharmaceutical company to successfully implement Kits4Life for its U.S. clinical trial sites, a first-of-its kind sustainability program to enable donations of unused clinical trial supplies for humanitarian aid, thereby strengthening healthcare delivery efforts while impacting thousands of lives.
Eli Lilly and Company – Eli Lilly and Company partners with Life for a Child and Direct Relief to deliver diabetes support, including more than 28 million mL of insulin, to vulnerable children and young people in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) that lack adequate insulin access.
Pfizer, Inc. – Since 2017, Pfizer has partnered with Direct Relief to distribute nearly 2 million doses of overdose-reversing naloxone available at no cost to 834 U.S. nonprofit health care providers and local public health departments on the front lines of the rising opioid epidemic.
ADM – In partnership with India’s Ministry of Agriculture, ADM developed a sustainable supply chain that allows smallholder soy farmers to scale production and achieve organic and non-GMO certification – advancing both the well-being of people and the health of the planet.
Biogen Inc. – Through its Healthy Climate, Healthy Lives initiative, Biogen aims to go fossil fuel free by 2040, engage employees and suppliers around shared climate goals, and advance the science and action on climate, health, and equity.
Microsoft Corporation – Microsoft has committed to become carbon negative, zero waste, and water positive by 2030, with the strategy to achieve these goals based on circularity to ensure restorative cycles for everything it produces.
Philips – As part of its commitment to improve the lives of 2 billion people per year by 2025, Philips launched a five-year program titled ‘Healthy people, Sustainable planet’ in 2016, reflecting the company’s commitment to three United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: good health and well-being; responsible consumption and production; and climate action.
