Sempra Energy and its family of companies is contributing over $6M to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Sempra Energy Foundation is donating $1.75M to small-to-medium size charities that are supporting individuals and families affected by the pandemic with critical needs in California, Texas and Louisiana while Sempra’s Southern California utilities, San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Gas Company, are contributing $1M each to emergency response, meals and income gap support for those whose employment has been compromised. The company is also suspending power disconnections.
San Diego Gas & Electric helped launch the COVID-19 Community Response Fund to address San Diegans’ growing needs amid the coronavirus outbreak. Announced on March 16, the fund was initially seeded with $1.3 million, including $1 million from SDG&E and $300,000 from The San Diego Foundation, and has now grown to more than $6.5 million.
