The first shipments of COVID-19 vaccines flew to destinations across the country via FedEx Priority Alert First Overnight. Each shipment included a FedEx SenseAware ID device to track its location in real-time. On Monday, December 14 at 5:53 am eastern time, the first U.S. vaccine delivery was made to Boston Medical Group in Boston, MA by a FedEx Express team member.
FedEx is currently shipping millions of COVID-19 vaccines to dosing centers across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Washington, D.C. FedEx is working closely with Pfizer, McKesson and other healthcare customers alongside federal, state and local officials to ship the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines according to their allocation and distribution plans, as well as future COVID-19 vaccines approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
FedEx is collaborating with the U.S. government task force overseeing vaccine distribution, with a dedicated liaison on site at the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services. FedEx has committed $4M in cash and in-kind transportation support to help nonprofits with COVID-19 vaccine distribution initiatives reaching underserved communities. In addition to supporting efforts in Memphis, their headquarter city, they will help reach communities across the U.S. alongside Direct Relief and Heart to Heart International and will help International Medical Corps reach underserved communities across up to 30 countries.
Since the beginning of 2020, in support of COVID-19 relief efforts, FedEx has transported more than 9,600 humanitarian aid shipments globally, valued at more than $6.3 million.
