COVID-19 continues to create significant health and economic challenges, but hope is on the horizon as vaccinations are being administered. As we enter this next phase in the COVID-19 recovery and eradication, employers are looking for best practices to manage the vaccination rollout. From employee communications and segmentation to administration of the vaccines, getting shots into arms is multi-faceted and brings numerous challenges.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation has been working with the private sector to gather insights and best practices as companies navigate next steps. Bolthouse Farms

Bolthouse Farms CEO Jeff Dunn announced plans to give all of his 1,800 full-time hourly employees at the company’s California plant a $500 bonus for getting the Covid-19 vaccine. Bolthouse has vaccinated more than 1,000 of its 1,800 employees since holding its first vaccination clinic on Feb. 26 for employees 65 and older. Since March 12 it has had weekly clinics.

Booz Allen Hamilton

Booz Allen is providing some pro bono consulting support related to workforce planning for vaccine distribution. The company has also provided charitable support for a vaccine supercenter in San Diego.

BRIA Health Services

BRIA Health Services, a long-term residential care and rehab provider, is offering a bonus of $150 for staff who get the vaccine. BRIA’s long-term care facilities have been hard hit by COVID-related deaths and questions over how the company handled outbreaks. “This is the most critical weapon in our fight against COVID-19,” BRIA spokesperson Natalie Bauer Luce said.  Luce said they also have a task force of infectious disease experts answering questions from employees who may be hesitant to get vaccinated...

Bridgestone Corporation

Bridgestone will offer its 33,000 U.S. employees $100 payments to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Capitol Carbonic

One local dry ice company is soon going to be helping pharmacies store the vaccine as it starts to become more widely available. At Capitol Carbonic in southwest Baltimore, their specialty is making storage extra frosty, and that’s exactly what pharmacies need as they start to receive the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine. “The temperature for this vaccine is critical, and I’m hearing anywhere between -70 and -94, and dry ice is 109 below zero,” John Dillinger, General Manager of Capitol Carbonic, said...

Carbon Health

Carbon Health, the technology-enabled healthcare provider, announced the launch of Carbon Health Vaccinate, a platform that allows local governments to more efficiently manage vaccine operations, and for any person to easily check their eligibility for a COVID-19 vaccine and sign up for a vaccination appointment.  The company also announced its first partnership with the City of Los Angeles and CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) to support the city’s COVID-19 vaccination program...

AmerisourceBergen is working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to serve as a network administrator which allows the company to place COVID-19 vaccine orders with the CDC on behalf of an initial set of eligible and qualified Good Neighbor Pharmacy and Elevate Provider Network members across select states and jurisdictions as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. Chobani

Chobani is making it easier for workers to get vaccinated. The dairy company announced that employees would be compensated for up to six hours to receive vaccine doses. "Some people view this as an expense. We look at it as an investment," Chobani's President and COO Peter McGuinness told Cheddar. "We're making food to put on American tables, and I think the least we can do is make it very easy for them to get vaccinated." McGuinness said the company especially wants to make sure it's more than 2,000 hourly workers can receive the vaccines.

Cigna

Microsoft Corp, health insurer Cigna Corp, and Mayo Clinic are part of a coalition pushing for digital records of people who get vaccinated against COVID-19. A key aim of the project, called Vaccination Credential Initiative, is to help people store encrypted digital copies of their immunization records in a digital wallet of their choice. These records could eventually be used, with an individual’s consent, by colleges that are trying to re-open or even for entry into concerts in the future.

Cisco

Citi

Citi announced the firm has been selected by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, to be the financial advisor for the COVAX Facility, its global procurement mechanism for COVID-19 vaccines. The COVAX Facility is part of COVAX, a global, multilateral initiative aimed at developing, manufacturing and deploying COVID-19 vaccines on a fair and equitable basis. It is co-led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), and the World Health Organization (WHO) —working in partnership with developed and developing country vaccine manufacturers...

ClassPass

ClassPass, best known for connecting subscribers with fitness classes near them, is now using its technology to aggregate information about where the vaccine is being offered. The information is available through the ClassPass smartphone app and its website, with details about vaccination sites visible on an interactive map.

Comcast NBCUniversal

Comcast NBCUniversal announced the launch of Plan Your Vaccine, a nationwide awareness campaign, website, and interactive tool that will provide the latest news and information about when and where people can receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The resource will help users navigate the vaccine rollout process by state, letting them know if they are currently eligible to receive the vaccine, track distribution timelines, and find the closest vaccination location.

Cordova Outdoors Company

St. Luke's Health System has joined forces with a local outdoors company that is offering its coolers to store the hospital's doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Once stored, the doses are sent to rural communities, where many Idahoans are waiting for their shot. Cordova Outdoors in Nampa and the Idaho company PharmaWatch are teaming up with St. Luke's to ensure Idaho's vaccine rollout remains on schedule. St. Luke's uses seven of these coolers for daily transportation since they are able to keep vaccine doses at the appropriate temperature for up to eight hours...

Costco Wholesale

Part of a "public-private partnership" between the health department and other business, health care and labor leaders, dubbed the "Washington State Vaccine Command and Coordination Center." Costco will help with vaccine delivery by pharmacies, as well as employee unions to help coordinate volunteer vaccinators.

CSC ServiceWorks

CSC ServiceWorks is helping its employees to make informed decisions by providing them COVID-19 Vaccine Resources. These resources laid out the basics of vaccination, hoping to assist employees in making educated choices, while advocating that everyone should receive the vaccine. The resources also supplied a state matrix of sites that employees can access. Also supplied was a link to Department of Homeland Security (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) documentation and a company letter to support. CVS

CVS and Walgreens began inoculations at long-term care facilities in a few states on Dec. 18. They’ve since expanded to thousands of facilities across 49 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. West Virginia has not opted into the federal program for Covid vaccinations at long-term care facilities. CVS Health and Walgreens said they are on track to complete the first round of Covid vaccine shots at nursing homes across the country by Jan. 25.

Darden Restaurants Inc.

Darden Restaurants, the parent company of brands including Olive Garden, announced that it will incentivize employees to get their COVID-19 vaccines by offering paid time off — up to four hours — so workers "do not have to choose between earning income and getting vaccinated," Darden CEO Gene Lee said in a letter shared with Fox News. "While we will not require hourly team members to be vaccinated as a condition of employment, we strongly encourage you consider getting vaccinated," the letter adds.

DHL

DHL has joined the international COVID-19 vaccine distribution. Flights operated by DHL Express and DHL Global Forwarding touched down in Tel Aviv with the first batch of vaccines for Israeli citizens on board. Since then, the rollout has expanded quickly. With its hub and gateway network across the globe, DHL was able to quickly pivot to help the vaccine distribution, delivering first batches for citizens in countries including Mexico, Italy, Greece, Oman, Austria, Chile, Sweden. Bahrain, Costa Rica, and Singapore.

Disney

Disneyland Resort in Anaheim is serving as the first super Point-of-Dispensing (POD) site for Covid-19 vaccines in Orange County.
