Shepard Nevel

President and CEO, LiveWell Colorado

Shepard Nevel is the president and CEO of LiveWell Colorado. In this role, he leads the statewide nonprofit organization in its efforts to reduce and prevent obesity through policy, environmental and lifestyle changes that advance healthy eating and active living. Through partnerships with the private sector, more than 90 school districts, 36 cities and towns, and 22 locally-based coalitions, LiveWell Colorado’s innovative model reaches more than one million Coloradans in ongoing and meaningful ways in support of making Colorado the healthiest state in the nation. Shepard is the former vice president of policy, evaluation and communications for the Colorado Health Foundation, the state's largest philanthropic organization and the third largest health-focused foundation in the country. He joined the Colorado Health Foundation in 2007 as the vice president of operations. Prior to that position, Shepard was president and CEO of Jovian P4 LLC, an education-focused private foundation and technology-focused nonprofit established by entrepreneur (and now Congressman) Jared Polis. Shepard has served as director of policy for Denver Mayor Wellington E. Webb, and as executive director of the Denver Workforce Region, leading six workforce centers throughout Denver that directly supported more than 90,000 adults and youth annually and several hundred employers annually. Shepard serves on the board of directors of the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District, the board of Healthier Colorado, the advisory board of Regis University Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions, and is co-chair of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce Health Care Committee. He is past chair of Colorado Bright Beginnings (now Bright by Three) board of directors and past board chair of KIPP Colorado Schools. Shepard is a former assistant county attorney in Miami-Dade County, where he served as counsel to the Public Health Trust and the Port of Miami, and state legislative liaison for Miami-Dade County. Shepard holds a bachelor’s degree with honors from Brown University and a law degree from Columbia Law School.
